About Mike Spinner
Mike Spinner burst onto the BMX scene in 2006 after winning the Free Flow Tour. That win earned Mike a spot in the final stop of the Dew Tour in Orlando, not far from where Mike grew up. The crowd was behind the Florida young gun, who did not disappoint and qualified first in prelims in his first contest as a pro. Mike pulled the first ever 720 to tailwhip, one of many tricks he has been the first, and in some cases, the only rider to ever land in competition.
Originally from Oceanside, N.Y., Mike moved to Miami with his parents when he was 8. He attended Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla., and graduated the same year he would make his pro contest debut. At 18, Spinner made his presence known at Woodward Camp. He was consistently landing 720’s and began honing several other never-completed tricks into a foam pit. Mike was earning a reputation as one of the next potential big pros.
In 2010, Mike completed construction of a private, state-of-the-art training facility in his backyard ("The Backyard") so that he could push himself and the boundaries of the sport. That same year, Mike's intense training and unique style led him to win the 2010 Chicago Dew Tour after completing a quadruple tailwhip straight into a 1080 turndown, a never-before completed trick.
Since then, Mike has focused his passion for BMX to conceptualize and produce both the Recon Tour, a 10-stop national amateur series with finals held at The Backyard, as well as the annual Play Pro Contest, renown by the pros for some of the best riding any professional tour has seen in years.
Mike has appeared on several TV shows including Late Night with Jimmy Fallon and CBS' The Early Show in addition to being featured in a national Nike commercial.
